Ankle screw removal will it hurt?

I have surgery in 2 days to remove 2 long screws holding my tibia and fibula together so that the tendon was allowed to heal over these past 3 long months. It is going to be a procedure where they give me meds that supposedly I don't remember anything... they did it when it broke I felt drunk but have full recollection. why they need to give me that if im "not going to feel a thing" is beyond me, and they are going to do a local numbing agent, has anyone had this done and did it hurt while the screws came out?
