Who has the burden of proof?

What if I make a claim about another person that may or may not be true. And the person sues me. The claim or statement itself cannot be proven. For example, I might claim that the person once gave me drugs. Or that I once saw him performing sexual acts with animals. These statements could potentially ruin his life. But it's really impossible for me or him to prove them true or false..
